New role for Mike

Mike Unwalla, principal of TechScribe, has been appointed as rapporteur for the Independent Authors Special Interest Group (IASIG,

"IASIG is a group of professional technical writers, all of whom belong to the UK professional organization for technical communicators," explains outgoing rapporteur, Mike Plant of Trenethick Technical Publications ( "I proposed Mike as my successor because he has valuable experience of the business and promotional aspects of being a freelance technical author."

"I knew from his previous role as one of our proofreaders that Mike always does a very thorough job," says Marian Newell, journal editor. "He is also involved with regional and national business organizations that provide him with a broader context for reporting our members' activities. His quarterly summaries of the group discussions will make a valuable contribution to Communicator, our professional journal."

Mike Unwalla adds, "It's a real challenge to distil 100 to 150 fact-filled e-mails into a few paragraphs, but I'm thoroughly enjoying my new role."
